Frequently Asked Questions

What is the prophet’s (SAW) practice of Qurbani (Adaahi)?

The Sunnah of the prophet (SAW) is to use a 1/3, gift a 1/3, donate a 1/3 of the meat and utilising all unused parts.

What about the skin, wool, head and offal which most of us never claim?

Below is a reference to hadith given in order to understand why it is not permissible to sell or give the butcher the skin, wool, head and offal. Unused parts should be given as charity.

Giving the butcher his recompense from the Qurbani, Dr. Husaam ad-Deen Musa ‘ifaana, University of Quds, Palestine

It is not permissible to give the butcher anything part of the Qurbani for slaughtering and process it and their proof is the Hadith narrated by Ali b. Abi Talib (Allah be pleased with him): The majority of the scholars said, Ali b. Abi Talib (Allah be pleased with him) reported: Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) put him in charge of his sacrificial animals, and commanded him to distribute the whole of their meat, hides, and saddle cloths to the poor, and not to give to the butcher anything out of them.

It is not permissible to sell any part of the Qurbani’s meat, skin, wool or any offal.

The Qurbani is considered as Waqif and therefore any part of it cannot be sold. It should be given in charity or gifted.

It is however permissible to make use of the Qurbani’s skin for own use.
